Chevy Truck Forum: Wheelin’ Pikes Peak in 1957 |

In today’s Chevy Truck forum post, I have a vintage video from 1957 featuring a Chevy Pickup that scales Pikes Peak. You realized what a different time this commercial was made in as soon as the narrator’s voice is heard. It reminds me of what old cartoons used to open with. It is really funny to see the line of late 50’s vehicles making their way down the rustic road in the beginning. From day one, Chevrolet has been field-testing their vehicles against the harshest of elements in order to create a reliable, tough vehicle. Pikes Peak is daunting to any vehicle especially in 1957.The 4x4 truck used to scale the elevated terrain is powered by a Thrift Master engine. The trucks used are basically what you would have bought off the showroom floor in 1957. I wonder how many Chevy truck parts they went through during the filming of this video. The tires are definitely not stock. Were Chevy truck accessories available at this time? It is pretty cool that the truck is filmed climbing the mountain on a virgin path. Very impressive. This was the time when Chevy was the reigning king in American trucking. |
